FAQs

How do I know if I need therapy?

Often people wonder if they need therapy but never ask the same question about exercising or having a healthy diet. Your emotional and mental health is just as important as your physical health.

If you feel that you are struggling mentally or emotionally then therapy could provide support

If you’re reading my website, there may be a part of you seeking and desiring help. Please feel free to contact me as this decision could get you in the best emotional and mental shape of your life.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own.

People with good self-awareness reach out and ask for help. It takes courage to embark on the psychotherapy journey. We all need help at some point. Sometimes the strengths that you already have, for whatever reason, aren’t helping you at this time.

Perhaps a problem feels overwhelming, and you’ve lost touch with your strengths. I can help you identify your strengths and how to use them in your life, possibly in different and more effective ways than you’ve done in the past.

Together, I can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. My ultimate goal is to help get you in touch with your inner wisdom, which we all have, even if it’s just been obscured or ignored for a while.

What can I expect during the first appointment?

During the first session, I ask questions related to your most pressing issue, with other concerns that may be troubling you. We’ll discuss your goals and how the therapy can work for your specific needs. We’ll decide upon a plan of action, reviewing this from time to time as therapy proceeds. * For an indepth breakdown of the first sessions visit the therapy services page

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

Not all issues require medication, nor can medication alone solve all problems. While medication can be a crucial component of treatment, it only treats symptoms. Our work together is designed to explore the root of the issue, dig deep into your behaviour, and teach you strategies that can help you accomplish your personal and/or relational goals. Research shows that treatment of mental health issues is most effective when it includes medication and therapy rather than just medication.

Also, if you have experienced or are currently dealing with a major or chronic health condition, therapy can help you develop a resilient attitude, stress management techniques, and effective communication skills with your family, friends, and medical professionals, all of which can bolster your resistance to disease.

How does counselling work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Each person has different issues and goals for therapy, which means therapy will be different depending on the individual. I focus my therapeutic approach on your specific needs.

What is the therapy Timescale?

There is no universal length of therapy that is appropriate for all people. It usually takes time to make long-lasting changes in your life, although we agree on a reviewable timescale in our initial session.

In the first place, the factors that are driving you to seek therapy affect the length of time therapy can take, accomplishing your goals depends on your commitment to personal development within that. Let’s start the process together, find what kind of change you are looking for and how I can help.

What can I do, to help get the most out of therapy?

Connecting with each other for one session a week, coupled with active participation and dedication are crucial to your success..

The practice you do outside of our sessions will truly help you with your personal growth and development. I have seen the best success working with clients who are able to keep motivated.

How can you help me get my life back, I feel like I’ve lost myself?

Whether it’s the loss of a relationship, a recent move, or a gradual shift into becoming someone we don’t like, we can all go through times during which we feel hopeless and frustrated. I love helping people explore who they want to be now and in the future.

Life becomes a lot more fulfilling when we have a greater sense of purpose and self-worth. I believe that in time you can reconnect (or possibly connect for the first time) with your inner wisdom and highest self, which can then guide, sustain, and comfort you at all times.
